Background of Upazila Administration

Source of naming Belab Upazila: - Once a lot of fruits used to grow here. The upazila is named Belabo after 'Bel' as it is well known as a succulent and medicinal fruit. Moreover, according to Mr. Muhammad Habibullah Pathan, a prominent academic, writer, researcher and archaeologist 'Mauryas' had a fierce battle with the local people and the place was conquered before the end of the day (in Bengali 'Bela' means day). As a result, people used to call this area 'Belabo'.

Background: - History and tradition accurately review the past events of man. On the basis of which people move towards the present and the future and build themselves as a well-civilized nation. As such Belabo Upazila has a glorious tradition. The people of this upazila, like Prometheus, shone in Belabo's house to house and rejoiced all over the world. Mr. Muhammad Habibullah Pathan, a prominent educationist, writer, researcher and archaeologist of this upazila has found an ancient fort city of about two and a half thousand years in the village of Wari-Bateshwar. Wari Bateshwar in Belabo Upazila is now known as one of the most important archeological sites in Bangladesh. Brick architecture, wide roads, the average of the king of Assam, weapons made of iron and other specimens have been discovered in this fortified area of ​​the two and a half thousand year old city of contemporary human civilization. Jahangir Nagar University Professor of Archeology, the team leader currently engaged in excavations. Sufi Mostafizur Rahman is in charge.

Belabo upazila shared its territory with the neighboring upazilas of Manohardi and Raipura before 1982. As a result of administrative decentralization of the then government, a complete upazila of 8 unions was formed from Manohardi upazila with Patuli, Binnabaid, Bajnab, Belab and Amla unions and from Raipura upazila with Narayanpur and Sallabad unions. It was named as "Belabo" Upazila.

Geographical boundaries: Katiadi in Kishoreganj district in the north, Kuliyarchar and Bhairab in the east, Raipura in Narsingdi district in the south, Manohardi and Shibpur upazilas in the west.

Area: -118.6 sq km.
